Local Talent Preparing for Jones Benefit Concert at Park Theatre
Tickets are GOING FAST for the June 6 & 7 Concert
Concert to feature array of local talent
Stephen’s Favorite Songs at Park Theater will include country, rock, Broadway tunes
The third annual Stephen's Favorite Songs benefit concert is less than two weeks away, to be presented at North Vernon's Park Theatre Civic Centre on June 6 and 7.
The two-night concert gala will once again feature local performers and national acts as they pay tribute to former Jennings County High School Choral Director Stephen E. Jones. Jones succumbed to cancer in 2005, but his memory is living on through the thousands of lives he touched throughout his life.
The concert raises money for the Stephen E. Jones Music Scholarship, which is presented to a graduating JCHS senior who plans to pursue music. Sasha Kreutzjans and Marlayna Pieratt, the first two recipients of the scholarship, will each be performing this year.

George Daeger, left, and his brother, Dave, perform at last year’s Stephen’s Favorite Songs concert.

Also performing will be Nashville's Dave Wilbert. Wilbert, the son of Sue and Bill Wilbert of North Vernon, is a country music star who has opened for the Dixie Chicks, Lonestar and Kenny Chesney. He released his first self-titled album in 2006 to rave reviews.
As a former student of Jones and star of several JCHS musicals, Wilbert says he always enjoys returning to North Vernon for the Jones benefits. For more on him, check out davewilbert.com.
Also from Nashville, Tenn., will be Dave and George Daeger of the rock-pop group The Early Evening. Having just released their newest album on iTunes, the Daegers will present 45 minutes of music on Friday, June 7, spanning both their new album and their entire discography that dates back over 10 years. To hear music and read more about The Early Evening, visit myspace.com/earlyevening.
Other talented local performances will come from North Vernon's Franny Hall, rock band Younger Brother and Christian mega-voice Angie Taylor. Taylor will kick off each show with a spectacular rendition of "The Star Spangled Banner" while both Franny and Younger Brother will demonstrate their mastery of the guitar along with great vocals. Both Hall and Younger Brother have MySpace websites at myspace.com/frannyhallrocks and myspace.com/youngerbrother3.
Also taking the stage will be four separate JCHS teachers to pay tribute to Jones through song.
The incredibly talented Cheryl Thill will present "Ave Maria" while current JCHS Choral Director Sandy Wildey will not only perform and accompany soloists but will also direct the Jones Tribute Choir that closes the show. Teacher Mandy Cunningham will perform a song from the musical "Mame." Perhaps most touching, current JCHS teacher and Stephen's daughter, Molly Jones, will perform a song from the musical "Wicked."
Many other performers will take the stage to pay tribute to their former friend and colleague.
Tickets are $5 apiece and are going fast. Visit the Park Theatre's box office at 25 N. Madison Ave. in downtown North Vernon or call 346-4329 or 346-0330. More information can be found at park-theatre.com/jones.html.
